C&T to achieve 40% waste reduction

C&T Matrix, the world’s leading manufacturer of print and packaging consumables and accessories, has set objectives to reduce our manufacturing waste by up to 40% by 2022 as well as to begin recycling key components of our products. We will do this by transforming our manufacturing processes at our UK production plant and investing in new technology.

As part of our continued commitment to sustainability, C&T Matrix has recently undertaken an environmental impact review. We have set targets to reduce their overall waste and increase the use of recycled product.

The biggest gain will be achieved by reducing the waste that results from existing processes, particularly around start up and job change overs. By re-engineering the way C&T Matrix produce our PVC matrix and investing in new machinery and manufacturing methods, we will reduce the use of PVC by 40%. Further benefits to this change will include improving consistency, efficiency and quality.

Improving green credentials is a long-term strategy for C&T Matrix. Beyond ongoing operational improvements, C&T Matrix is increasing the reuse of internal waste especially EVA waste which results from the production of the locator component of the creasing matrix. We also plan to increase the recycled content of the creasing matrix strip itself. We are also working closely with other partners, especially their customers, to help them manage their waste.

Plastic is a force for good

We produce plastic components and consumables where plastic is the most sustainable material available and provides unbeatable technical performance. Within each of our specialist application sectors and for each technical application, no material has a better carbon footprint than plastic, provided each is recycled and reused effectively.

When we manufacture high volume components and consumables, our plastic engineered solutions help create more sustainable products and minimise the environmental footprint. In our applications, using plastic (instead of alternative materials) reduces overall fuel usage, improves fuel efficiency, reduces water use and minimises food waste.

Plastics have a strong environmental profile. All polymers are lightweight, durable, low carbon and recyclable. And they are not a major drain on our natural resources. Only 4% of global oil production is used for plastics. (BPF)
